ATTENTION COVID-19 Update April 30, 2020
The Serving Center plans a gradual reopening in phases to maintain the utmost safety and social-distancing for our staff, volunteers, donors, customers, and clients. The Serving Center will continue the modified operation and temporary closure as follows:
June 1, 2020 through end of August 2020
– The Serving Center facility remains closed to the public.
– Food distribution continues on Monday – Wednesday – Friday from 10 am to 1 pm ONLY. *Curbside distribution continues through June 27 with those that have received food vouchers through the online application.
– Food distribution is expanded to Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm beginning June 6th.
– Intake/financial assistance by phone continues through June 27th. Clients are faxing/emailing their bills and lease agreements.
– Merchandise donations will be accepted Monday – Saturday from 8 am to 2pm beginning Monday, June 1.
– Treasure thrift stores will reopen with appropriate safety protocols on Monday, June 1. Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2pm, Saturdays from 9am to 12pm.
Curbside food distribution will continue through August
Thank you for your generous response for plastic bags. We are at capacity at this time.
– The Serving Center will be closed on Friday, 7/3 and Saturday, 7/4 for the Independence Day Holiday.
Thank you to all of the volunteers, donors, clients, and customers for your patience as we transition through a phased reopening. Take care and stay safe.
The Serving Center facility was closed to the public effective March 18th. The food pantry is operating on a modified basis and is distributing food on Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 10 am to 1 pm only. This is a drive-through operation in the donation receiving circular driveway averaging 100 cars during each 3-hour distribution and have distributed food to 2,700 households with 10,196 individuals. We are providing financial assistance by phone only. Clients must call and speak with our Case Manager, and fax/email their utility bills and lease agreements. Checks are being mailed. Since March 24th when we began the financial assistance by phone, we have helped COVID-19 impacted households with $98,400 for rent, utilities, prescriptions, bus, and temporary shelter. Of those families, 39% were COVID-19 impacted households.
The Serving Center caseload is going to rise dramatically. After 9/11, the caseload skyrocketed by 86%. In 2008, the caseload jumped by 45%, and in 2009, the caseload rose by 19%. The COVID-19 pandemic is much broader and is impacting significantly more families who are normally working with job cuts and layoffs. The Serving Center expects to exceed the program services budget to respond to the needs of not only client families but also households affected by COVID-19. Our most immediate need right now is to continue the food distribution. We’re prepping grocery carts using an assembly line and the groceries are being loaded directly into the clients’ vehicles. We are accepting food donations.
In addition, the closure of the thrift stores is a serious loss of revenue in the amount of $60,000 for two months. We are anticipating reopening the clothing and furniture thrift store on June 1st, provided we have enough volunteers to do so. We will begin accepting merchandise donations again on June 1st.
Financial contributions are needed and would be most appreciated if designated for COVID-19. Those special funds would only be used for the families impacted by COVID-19.
Please click the button below to give today.
Since the facility is closed to the public, we have our six staff working plus about 12-15 volunteers. We’re praying that everyone stays healthy so that the Serving Center can continue to distribute food and operate.
Thank you for visiting the Round Rock Area Serving Center – Let’s take the next step.

What people say about us
STUDENTS & GROUP VOlUNTEERS
“I belong to the Highly Effective Teen program and I always enjoy volunteering at the Serving Center and The Volunteer Center. Our group has volunteered at many events, like Family Volunteer Day – we also help to sort in the food pantry and planted in the community gardens. We have to achieve at least 20 – 40+ hours a year for NHS and school and they have made it fun to give back!”
“They do so much for the local community. I encourage anyone to volunteer and see how great the need is and how grateful those served are to have this organization here in Round Rock. I started with them as a client and received services when I was in need and then wanted to give back. People don’t realize there are people of all ages that are homeless and trying to get back on track. Thank you for your help!”
Patrick – Client & Volunteer
” We love to volunteer together at the Serving Center – keeping the resale shop organized, sorting merchandise for the store and helping in the food pantry and in client services. We have enjoyed and helped with many things over the past 10 years and have been a faithful partner to the Serving Center. We give back because it keeps us young and helps so many, when we were in a time of need – they were here for us! This is a meaningful way to spend our retirement years.”
